International one-way rentals…

We have noticed an increasing number of enquiries on search engines regarding international one-way rentals so here are a few guidelines:

a one-way rental is where a car is collected at one office and returned to another office in the same country. An international one-way is where the car is returned to an office in another country

there are usually restrictions as to the cars that are permitted on international one-ways. For instance it is rare, if ever, that people-carriers are available for this use.

there are also restrictions on the countries that you may be allowed to return a car in. Some … Continue Reading

Our on-line sites get even more popular…

Our on-line booking sister sites are really busy as people check rates, cars and locations and make their bookings for all the up-coming holidays such as Easter, May Day, Spring Bank holiday and the big summer break in July and August. The up-graded booking engine is a big hit with the choice of languages and currencies making these sites accessible to more people right around the world.

Perhaps not surprisingly the most popular destinations are the Mediterranean resorts such as the Spanish Costas, Italy, Greece, Cyprus and the South of France plus Portugal and the Canary islands. During February Alicante, Murcia … Continue Reading

Ryanair cop-out…

Ryanair re-launched their web-site yesterday as they promised but that is as far as keeping promises goes. The new site was supposed to have prices that were inclusive of all non-optional charges. What they quoted for your dates and route would be what you would pay unless you opted for additional services. This would be as opposed to their previous practice of headline prices nett of an increasingly ridiculous range of taxes and charges. In practice their new site has proved to be another contemptuous snub to both the authorities and their own clients. We checked the rates of a … Continue Reading

Guaranteed Sat. Nav. in the USA..

Sat. Nav. is now the most requested item after air-conditioning. Unfortunately the supply of systems is still very limited, both in numbers of units available and also in the locations where they are available. And usually they cannot be pre-booked, instead you must take your chances on a unit being available when collecting your car. However these problems are now history so far as visitors to the USA are concerned. We have a new package, in conjunction with Alamo, where a Sat. Nav. system can be pre-booked and pre-paid in the UK. Available at most Alamo offices throughout the States, … Continue Reading

More choice on Majorca..

Our friends at one of the Majorca rental companies have added some interesting and unusual cars to their fleet. As well as a good choice of popular economy and family models, they now offer the Chevrolet Captiva 7-seater SUV, the Chrysler Sebring convertible, two versions of the Jeep Wrangler and the Chrysler Voyager 7-seater Minivan with either manual or automatic transmission. For rates and further details please e-mail info@carhirewarehouse.com

Min/Max. driver ages

A question that is constantly being asked is ‘what is the minimum or maximum age for a driver of a rented car?’ It is sensible to clarify this point before booking a car in order to prevent problems if the driver, or one of the drivers, doesn’t comply with the rental companies age limits.

Min/Max. driver ages vary between different countries and sometimes between different rental companies in the same country. However a sensible guideline is that the minimum age is likely to be 21 years, and in most cases there will be supplements for all drivers of age 21-24 years … Continue Reading

Mercedes sports in Italy…

An interesting recent enquiry was from a travel agent on behalf of a client. Their client required a ‘high end’ convertible in Italy for late June. The car was to be collected in central Rome and returned at Pisa airport. Such cars are not easily available, and even when they are it is only in very limited numbers. After considering the options and confirming the dates the first choice car was already sold out. However the next choice, a Mercedes SLK200 Kompressor 2-seater sports car (see below) was available. Other options were an Alfa Brera convertible, a Mercedes CLK200 4 … Continue Reading

From the West Country to the world…

An enquiry a few days ago caught us by surprise. The clients advised that they were flying from Newquay in Cornwall to St. (Saint) Brieuc in Normandy. We had never heard of such a route, let alone St. Brieuc. However a quick check on the map revealed that it is in Brittany, a bit west of the Dinard/St. Malo area. Another check, this time on the Newquay airport site, www.newquaycornwallairport.com, confirmed that there will be a summer service on this route. Great to see new routes opening up from regional airports.

We looked further and found that from Newquay you … Continue Reading

This weeks activity..

First we keep reporting that we are very busy. Well our bookings are currently at the level that they were in late March last year – so we really are much busier than a year ago.

Anyway, this week there was another Citroen Picasso at Santiago de Compostela, for friends of the family that booked a similar car last week. Regular clients booked two Ford Focus C-Max mini-MPVs at Murcia for the summer and another client a Ford Ka at Almeria for Easter. A couple of clients that we hadn’t heard from for a while were in touch, one booking a … Continue Reading

Comments, enquiries and e-mail addresses…

As you know there is a facility on this Blog for clients and visitors to post their Comments about the various posts. These contributions are a valuable addition to the Blog and are very much appreciated. However, as always, a few idiots try to spoil it. In the past week we have stopped about a dozen attempts to post a dodgy video of Paris Hilton. There are always irrelevant posts, some potentially offensive and some just nuisance value. Others are from optomists hoping to get a plug or link for their own site, no matter how irrelevant it is to … Continue Reading
