One of our rental company suppliers has contacted us regarding new cars on their fleet. They also took the opportunity to remind us of the wide choice of cars that they offer. Based on Majorca, the companies new models include the luxurious Mercedes CLK cabriolet and the newly-launched Peugeot 207CC which has just replaced the 206CC. The company offers the widest choice of convertibles that we know including not just the Mercedes and Peugeot but the Smart 2-seater cabriolet, Beetle cabriolet, Mini convertible, Ford StreetKa, Renault Megane (old model convertible and … Continue Reading
..a popular theme in the past couple of weeks. The US tourist authorities are constantly promoting the idea that the US has much more to offer than just Disney. This is absolutely true and a rental car can help you to see much more of this vast and varied country. Unfortunately, what the tourist authorities don’t say is that car rental companies charge extra fees for one-way routings. One of the reasons for this is that cars are registered by State and have to be returned to their home State at the end of a one-way rental thereby incurring extra … Continue Reading
America has been the big theme this week. All of it for many of you. After last weeks Route 66 enquiry, the one-way bug bit with a convertible for Boston to Los Angeles, a compact car for Jacksonville, Florida to Los Angeles and a full-size or 4×4 at JFK or Manhattan in New York to be returned at either JFK or Boston airport after crossing into Canada at Niagara. Other US enquiries where for Orlando as the summer Disney season approaches. A regular client has promised photos of their 4×4 SUV from last years Denver to San Francisco trip.

Get your kicks on Route 66 and all that. This is the legendary, almost mythical, road that runs west from Chicago through much of the American mid-west before arriving in the promised land of California at Los Angeles. Many people still want to experience the spirit of this road and we have regular enquiries for rental cars for this experience. A client recently advised that they had been told that rental companies wouldn’t allow this routing, but they do – it is possible to collect a car in Chicago and return it in Los … Continue Reading
Another busy week with a mix of regular and unusual enquiries. France led the way again with some late bookings for house-hunters in the Dordogne plus summer holidays at Bergerac, La Rochelle, Angouleme and Toulouse, a short hire from Paris to visit the D-Day beaches in Normandy, a Kangoo in Poitiers and a European tour starting in Provence and then taking in Italy and Slovenia.
Italy is also getting busy for the summer. Two cars for a group in Tuscany, a one-way from Lamezia Terme to Pisa and a Focus/Stilo estate at Pisa. Plus we have been asked to contribute a … Continue Reading
We are receiving an increasing number of ’stop-sell’ notices from rental companies for the Easter period. This means that supply of all cars for this period, not just people-carriers and convertibles, is now very poor. If you need a car for this time and haven’t already booked it you should do so without further delay.
Strangely one of this weeks enquiries was identical to one from last week – a case of deja vu? Another client who had moved to France was checking on renting a car in France and using it to visit the UK. This time the Eurotunnel would be their preferred choice of travel so we await hearing further.
Other business was for Pisa and Florence in Tuscany, a sure sign that the summer holiday bookings are getting into full swing. A regular client that we hadn’t heard from for some time rang about a car at Nimes in the South of France, … Continue Reading
One of this weeks enquiries was for Alghero on Sardinia. This is not a problem and we have arranged many cars previously for Alghero and elsewhere on Sardinia. However this case was for a one-way routing to Florence on the mainland. This can be arranged but the choice of rental company is very limited as many do not permit their cars to leave Sardinia, either for the mainland or to Sicily. Those companies that do allow this make a substantial local charge, currently up to 230 euros plus tax. On top of this charge, of course, is the ferry fare. … Continue Reading
