Not just Florida…

Checking through old records I found this photo of a full-size car in the States. It was kindly sent in by Gordon following his holiday in Tampa a couple of years ago. Gordon and his wife had been to Florida many times and this wasn’t the first car that we had arranged for them. However this time they were going for four weeks and felt that they might like to venture further afield and see more of America as they would have the time. They were pleasantly surprised when we told them that the car was permitted to go anywhere … Continue Reading

Photos at last..

At last we seem to have solved the problem of posting photos on this Blog. Below is the promised photo of our Mercedes A-class in Spain at Christmas. With a turbo-diesel engine and six-speed gearbox this car was great. And it had plenty of room – my eldest son is over 6 feet tall but there were no complaints about lack of legroom in the back. These cars are available at most popular airports on the Spanish Costas.christmas-in-spain-025.jpg

Be Smart again..

More good news, this time from Spain. The funky Smart 2-seaters are returning after being removed from the fleet at the end of October. A detailed reason for this was never given but main thing is that these popular cars are back! Bookings can be made from now and the cars are ready for collecting from 01 June to 31 october. Available at Alicante, Almeria, Malaga, Murcia, Granada, Jerez, Valencia, Gerona and Palma airports and a number of local offices. They are cheap as well!

Other news is that the same company has changed the VW Caddy 7-seater to a different … Continue Reading

More airport tax?…no effect!

It seems that Gordon Browns increases in APD (Air Passenger Duty) are largely being ignored by the British public. Many of you are planning short breaks this winter and the Chancellors latest tax increase is not going to stop you. In the past week we have arranged cars for short stays in Bergerac, Poitiers, Bordeaux and La Rochelle in France and also on the Costa Calida in Spain. Summer business has been for a short stay in Nice, a week in Alicante and people-carriers in Rome and Majorca. There has also been a lot of interest in the US. Several … Continue Reading

Cruiser convertible..

More news from Florida. One company is replacing their fleet of convertibles. The new model will be the Chrysler PT Cruiser convertible, complete with funky retro hot-rod looks. Due to very limited numbers of these cars, they will only be available at Orlando and Sanford airports so get your booking confirmed urgently!

Self-drive classic cars

We had an e-mail enquiry overnight for a self-drive classic car in Florida. Originally we had contacts with a number of self-drive classic car hire companies in various countries. Unfortunately most of these companies have now ceased trading, citing soaring insurance rates, 9/11 and other problems. The last to go was the business in Florida about a year ago. As a result we have stopped offering self-drive classic car rentals. However there are a number of companies in the UK, and no doubt similar businesses in other countries, who offer this service so please try a search engine and … Continue Reading

More enquiries…

The sun is winning with more enquiries for sunspots than ski-slopes this week. In the Canaries there were short notice bookings for a Clio and a Berlingo in Tenerife, and an estate or a Berlingo in Lanzarote. France was busy with a week in either Paris CDG or Angers in the Loire Valley (or a one-way between these points) in March, an estate car in Dinard and three economy cars for a group at La Rochelle. For mainland Spain, one regular client booked a Focus for three weeks at Murcia in May and another a Fiesta for four weeks at … Continue Reading

On-line activity..

Our on-line business is as active as the carhirewarehouse side. Many people assume that on-line sites are only for booking economy and family cars at popular holiday locations. This isn’t the case. On-line activity has included cars at Benicarlo on the Costa del Azahar, La Gomera in the Canaries, Figari in Corsica, a 9-seater in Tuscany, a pick-up truck in Florida and a group needing four Renault Kangoos at Nimes in the south of France. For on-line bookings go to www.acarinthesun.com

Thank you Europcar..

My wifes parents live in Spain and return to the UK about once a year, which was last week. As usual they needed a hire car in order to be able to get around to see the family. Over the years they have used most of the rental companies at Stansted airport and all have proved very good. However their favourite is Europcar. I booked the usual 3 door economy car (Renault Clio or similar) and Europcar kindly listed them as VIP clients. As a result when they got to Stansted they were up-graded to a Vauxhall Zafira mini-MPV at … Continue Reading

Florida pick-up trucks..

News reaches us from Florida of a change with regard to the popular pick-up trucks. The new fleet being introduced with immediate effect will have 5 seats, not 6 as has been the case to date. This may not cause too many problems as we are aware that most users of these vehicles choose them for reasons other than the 6-seater capability. Please also be aware that these vehicles are becoming so popular that they are often selling out, meaning disappointment for late bookers. So don’t wait, book your ‘truck’ with us as soon as possible or go to … Continue Reading
