Excess refund peace of mind….

With the schools about to finish for the summer in a few days many families will flying abroad and collecting their hire cars at their arrival airport. Whilst there are many car rental deals that have a ‘no excess’ benefit, the majority still do not meaning that hundreds, or in some cases a couple of thousand, euros will be secured on your credit card against damage to the hire car or theft o0f the hire car. Little can ruin a holiday more than losing a substantial sum of money due to the actions of another driver. But there are ways … Continue Reading

Transfers for flight cancellations…

The volcano erupton in Iceland is causing travel chaos. All flights in and out of the UK have been cancelled and this has put huge pressure on alternative forms of travel such as the Eurostar and the ferries. When flights do resume then the chaos will continue as delayed travellers arrive back in the UK and require transport to their homes, and also outbound passengers re-book their flights.

Our sister company, Academy Cars, provides a private hire transfer service to and from airports, cruise and ferry ports and the Eurostar terminals. With their range of cars and people-carriers they will do their … Continue Reading

Well done…and a warning

More feedback, this time from clients just returned after touring California, Arizona and Nevada for 3 weeks.

‘Your paperwork system proved to be good and none of the usual add ons and sales apart from offering a deal to up-grade a class (the rental company was Alamo)…..All went well until San Diego when not being happy with hotel security and drop-outs hanging around I made the big msitake of splitting our valuables. Also believed that Sea World might have a better security system in their car parks.

‘The car had good security, blacked out rear windows and two bags were well … Continue Reading

Competition prize was great…

Our competition winner, Sarah, has sent the following feedback to our friends at Holiday Villas magazine following her prize holiday at Calpe on the Costa Blanca recently.

‘Thank you so much for a fantastic holiday – we all had a great time and are really grateful to everyone at Holiday Villas magazine, Villa Spain and www.acarinthesun.com for making it possible….We were very impressed with the Imperial Park resort. We paid to up-grade to ‘All-Inclusive’ which was definitely a good decision as it was really good value and the food (and drink!) was delicious. It was also nice not to have … Continue Reading

Route 66…

route66.gif
Get your kicks on Route 66 and all that. This is the legendary, almost mythical, road that runs west from Chicago through much of the American mid-west before arriving in the promised land of California at Los Angeles. Many people still want to experience the spirit of this road and we have regular enquiries for rental cars for this experience. A client recently advised that they had been told that rental companies wouldn’t allow this routing, but they do – it is possible to collect a car in Chicago and return it in Los … Continue Reading

International one-way rentals..

An interesting enquiry was for an international one-way rental from Porto to Barcelona. International one-way rentals are often permitted but there are terms and conditions. In this particular case there is a 1,000 euro plus tax ‘international one-way fee’ – these fees can vary between different rental comapnies but are always high between Portugal and Spain (or vice-versa). Some combinations of countries are not so bad. We have arranged Paris-Rome at 250 euros, and both Toulouse and Perpignan to Barcelonalso a at 250 euros. Poland-Hungary was reasonable. Another restriction is that many types of cars are not permitted on … Continue Reading

Lakes and waterfalls…

Looking down from the picturesque square in Guadelest you overlook what appears to be a lake. in fact this is the reservoir that serves Benidorm and much of the Costa Blanca. At the foot of the mountains there is a waterfall that uses water from this reservoir. No matter how hot the weather is, the waterfall is always freezing and is a popular tourist spot as a result. To get there you follow the signs to Callosa and then turn right in the town centre signposted Fuentes d’Algar. For Guadelest, go straight on at Callosa…. Continue Reading

Benidorm and culture…

No, its not mistake. This is the historic village of Guadelest, only about 20kms from Benidorm but a world away. Situated high in the mountains, the story goes that many centuries ago the villagers held out against the Moors for 70 years on this mountain top before committing mass suicide. Guadelest is now a major tourist attraction on the Costa Blanca, its bell tower an iconic image of the region.dscn0004.gif
